The Decision Lab is an interactive eLearning simulation designed to help new and emerging managers practice real-world leadership decision-making. In this scenario-based experience, learners step into the role of a new manager leading a five-person team. They navigate common workplace challenges making decisions that directly impact a dynamic Team Trust Score. The simulation allows learners to apply leadership concepts in context and see the consequences of their decisions in real time.

The design process for The Decision Lab began with identifying a common gap in leadership development. Many new managers understand key concepts but lack opportunities to practice applying them in realistic situations. To address this, I defined core learning themes, learning objectives, and selected a scenario-based simulation approach to support decision-making. I also planned for a dynamic Team Trust Score to reinforce the impact of each decision.
I used both text-based and visual storyboarding in Word and PowerPoint to map out the full learner experience, including scenario narratives, character dialogue, decision points, and feedback pathways. This phase ensured alignment between learning objectives, interactions, and assessment strategy, while also allowing me to design a cohesive narrative across all scenarios.
I built the course in Articulate Storyline 360, using variables and triggers for branching logic and to track the Team Trust Score across slides. I created a dynamic trust meter that visually updates based on learner decisions, along with layered feedback to provide contextual, narrative-driven responses. Throughout the build, I focused on creating a clean, intuitive user experience with consistent layouts, clear navigation, and smooth interactions.
