The Way I Think About Learning Design
When I design a project, I always start by asking, “What problem exists that can be solved through training?” Every course, program, or resource should be built with a clear understanding of the learner’s real-world challenges and how education can meaningfully address them. My end goal is to create learning experiences that help professionals take the next step in their growth and careers.
I build education around three core ideas:
People learn best when they feel supported and understood. Whether I’m designing for a corporate team or an association audience, I prioritize real-world connection through peer collaboration, learner-to-instructor interaction, and even behind-the-scenes support from staff. Learning happens best when there are real people behind the solution.
Every module, slide, and activity should exist for a reason and move the learner or organization closer to their goals. Time is valuable, so I believe in clear, focused learning without unnecessary fluff.
I take pride in translating complex ideas into learning that’s simple, structured, and actionable. Whether it’s turning raw data from a needs analysis into a clear education plan or transforming a lengthy training into concise, interactive modules, my focus is always on creating accessible, meaningful learning that drives engagement and results.
My approach is closely mirrors the ADDIE framework (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate), with a strong emphasis on the Analyze phase where the real learning needs are uncovered.
Here’s how I bring ADDIE to life in my work:
I begin with curiosity. Through stakeholder interviews, learner analysis, and performance mapping, I uncover what learners truly need to do, not just what they need to know. This ensures every learning experience is built on purpose, not assumption.
I translate insights into program plans, storyboards, outlines, and prototypes that visualize the learning journey. My goal is to balance aesthetics, interactivity, and accessibility to create experiences that look great and feel natural to navigate.
Using tools like Articulate Storyline, Rise 360, and Canva, I bring designs to life. During this phase, I focus on clean, intuitive learning experiences that align with the agreed-upon storyboards and keep learners engaged from start to finish.
During this last phase, I manage implementation, LMS integration, and evaluation using data and learner feedback to measure impact. Evaluation isn’t just about checking a box or completing a phase. It’s about identifying gaps, improving continuously, and ensuring the learning actually works.
